Nestled in the heart of San Antonio, Cuarto de Kilo Mesquite Mexican Burgers offers a unique fusion of Mexican culinary traditions and American burger culture. Originating from Guadalajara, Mexico, this eatery has rapidly gained acclaim for its substantial, handcrafted burgers that promise to satisfy even the most voracious appetites.
A Legacy of Flavor
The journey of Cuarto de Kilo began in 2010 when our founders Alvaro Aguilar and Miguel Perez introduced their mother’s cherished burger recipe to the public. Starting as a modest establishment in Guadalajara, the brand has flourished, boasting alamost 40 locations across Mexico. In June 2023, we ventured into the U.S. market, selecting the San Antonio suburb of Helotes, Texas, for their inaugural American outlet.
The Beastly Burger Experience
The term “Cuarto de Kilo” translates to “quarter of a kilogram,” signifying burgers that weigh in at over half a pound. These hefty patties are meticulously handcrafted and seasoned with a blend of salt, pepper, mustard, and parsley, reflecting the rich flavors characteristic of Mexican cuisine. Cooking over mesquite charcoal on a distinctive rotating grill imparts a smoky aroma and ensures a juicy, evenly cooked burger. Each creation is then nestled within an artisanal sesame seed bun and adorned with fresh toppings, including lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and a selection of house-made dips like jalapeño, chipotle, and the fiery habanero-based Bestia dip.
Community Recognition
Cuarto de Kilo’s commitment to delivering a “Feast for a Beast” has not gone unnoticed. The San Antonio Current honored the establishment as the Best New Restaurant and awarded it the second spot for Best Burger in the city.
Additionally, food critic Mike Sutter included their cheeseburger in his list of the top 25 best dishes in San Antonio for 2024, praising its backyard barbecue essence and the delightful messiness that accompanies each bite.
Embracing the Challenge
For those eager to test their gastronomic limits, Cuarto de Kilo presents the Bestia Challenge: consume two of their colossal burgers to earn a complimentary cap and a spot on the restaurant’s wall of fame. To date, 85 patrons have risen to this formidable feat.
A Fusion of Cultures
Cuarto de Kilo masterfully intertwines Mexican culinary heritage with American burger traditions, offering a distinctive dining experience that resonates with both cultures. Whether you’re a San Antonio local or a visitor seeking a memorable meal, indulging in one of their mesquite-grilled burgers is an adventure worth undertaking.
